On 30 September an earthquake struck off the coast of Bogo City, Cebu province. There are 69 reported deaths and 201 injuries (expected to rise in the coming days), mostly in Bogo City, Medellin, and San Remigio and over 111,600 individuals have been affected, with more than 20,000 displaced, mostly are staying outside evacuation centers. Initial reports indicate widespread damage to homes, churches, public buildings, roads, and ports. Many displaced families are sheltering in front of their houses and in open spaces due to the ongoing aftershocks.

A powerful offshore 6.9 magnitude earthquake struck near Bogo City in the Philippines in the late evening of September 30, 2025. More than 60 casualties and 150 injuries have been reported, and homes, businesses, and infrastructure have been destroyed. Relief efforts are currently underway, including search and rescue efforts, medical intervention, meal distribution, and other critical services. Homeless Persons' Memorial Day falls on the longest night of each year, December 21st, and serves to remember those who lost their lives while experiencing the devastating impacts of homelessness. People experiencing homelessness are at a higher risk for trauma, injury, and illness, and lack of housing and access to resources exacerbates these issues. Safe, stable housing is a basic and essential human right, and the fight to end homelessness remains underway. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), a historic achievement for the global human rights movement, was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly on December 10, 1948. The UDHR serves as a guideline for human rights that should be universally protected amongst all nations, and has inspired significant progress in the fight for human rights on a global scale since its adoption. International Human Rights Day is recognized globally on December 10th, as the movement for human rights remains underway. International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD), recognized around the world on December 3rd of each year, promotes the mobilization of awareness and support surrounding the challenges and barriers people with disabilities face on a daily basis. IDPD aims to highlight the importance of visibility across all systems and communities in an effort to promote the rights and well-being of people with disabilities, with the ultimate goal of achieving an accessible and inclusive world for all.

World AIDS Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness of the global fight to find a cure for AIDS and honoring those we have lost, falls on December 1st each year. The following organizations are doing the critical work to dismantle the stigma of HIV/AIDS, address the social and economic inequities which perpetuate the spread of HIV/AIDS, provide widespread education regarding the treatment and prevention of HIV/AIDS, and ultimately fight to end the global HIV/AIDS epidemic through research and medical advancements.
